Change your inbox layout. If you’re not fond of the classic layout or would like to make slight adjustments, here are a couple of options. Change the preview location. With Mail open, click View Show Side Preview from the menu bar. You’ll then see your familiar preview on the right side of mail instead of at the bottom. The default image viewer on Mac is Preview, a stock macOS app that actually originated at NeXT. Preview does many things. On top of letting you view, edit, and annotate images and PDF documents, Preview can also import and export documents to various file formats. It is, for many, a staple.
In the Preview app on your Mac, open the PDF file, choose View Thumbnails, then select the page in the thumbnail sidebar. Click File Export, type a name, add a tag (optional), then choose where you want to save it. Click the Format pop-up menu and choose an image format (such as PNG). App previews demonstrate the features, functionality, and user interface of your app using footage captured on device. You can have up to three app previews for each language your app supports, and each preview can be up to 30 seconds long. Nov 19, 2016 Preview is the default app for viewing images and PDF files on your Mac. So, any time you double-click on, or otherwise launch, one of those files, it'll open in Preview. If, for some reason, another app has taken over responsibility for a certain file type, and you want to give it back to Preview, you make the change right in the Finder.
You can open a PDF in Preview, then add, delete, and rearrange pages, or move pages from one PDF to another.
- In the Preview app on your Mac, open the PDF you want to change.
- Do any of the following:
- Add a page to a PDF: Select the page you want to appear before the new page, choose Edit > Insert, then choose Page from File or Blank Page.The new page is inserted after the current page.
- Delete a page from a PDF: Choose View > Thumbnails or View > Contact Sheet, select the page or pages to delete, then press the Delete key on your keyboard (or choose Edit > Delete).When you delete a page from a PDF, all the annotations on the page are removed as well.
- Move pages in a PDF: Choose View > Thumbnails or View > Contact Sheet, then drag the pages to their new location.
- Copy a page from one PDF to another: In each PDF, choose View > Thumbnails or View > Contact Sheet, then drag thumbnail images from one PDF to the other.
You can also create a new PDF by dragging thumbnails from a PDF sidebar to the desktop.

You can apply a Quartz filter to an image in Preview so the image’s colors are more faithfully reproduced on printers, displays, and other devices.
- In the Preview app on your Mac, open the image you want to adjust.
- Do one of the following:
- Apply a color profile to the image: Choose Tools > Assign Profile, select a color profile, then click OK.
- See what an image would look like on a different device: Choose View > Soft Proof with Profile, then select a color profile.
